In a Cuban Mansion
In a Cuban former mansion
That looked like a fort
I was imprisoned
For a time… very short
Close to forty from the whole world
Resided there in five large rooms
All male, all races, all ages
From nineteen to sixty two
They suffer,
they cried,
They long for their loved ones from afar
In their pain,
in their shame,
in their pride
Victims of a bureaucracy,
that is senseless
Loss of liberty,
Loss of money,
Loss of time,
And no crime
Results of thoughtless rules
Never geared to solve
Your problem , but mine
OH GOD!!! What an agony!!!
The hurt is still there,
Not gone.
Not in my life, I thought
To do wrong, or be caught
For the right in doing
Or the crime not wanting
No punishment, they said
Just correction
So there is no repetition
Of the error not mine in writing
India, Bangladesh, Pakistan
Sri Lanka and Nepal
Nigeria, Ghana, French Guinea
Angola and Ethiopia
Yemen, Jordan, Italy
Peru, Canada and Cuba
Four continents in one place
And more than ten languages
The beauty of people,
Their dreams, their goals,
Their business, their studies
All shattered, all in shambles
Their sickness, their depression,
Their tears, their humiliation
The abuse, the oppression.
Is there a way?
Is there a solution?
Is there Justice?
Is there compassion?
Were rules made for humans,
Or humans for rules?
Rules without heart,
Rules without sense,
Rules without logic,
Rules , Rules , Rules
Rules imposed for order
Creating only disorder
God help those left behind
They need support
They have no one
To help them behind
They are in that mansion
Made a house of detention
Made of a “nice” old fort.
